We all have this bad habit of popping pimples that appear on our skin, but it often ends with scars appearing on our face after. Here are a couple of neat tricks to prevent scarring on the skin!
According to Dr. Pimple Popper (Dr. Sandra Lee), there’s a difference between an acne mark and an acne scar. An acne mark is a post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, they are marks left on our skin after breakout which will appear more pink or slightly brown depending on your skin tone. They will fade overtime as your skin regenerates. Acne scars are indentations on the skin caused by picking at a pimple. They appear if you don’t treat your pimple properly, the more inflamed it is the more likely it will scar.
However, the urge to pop a pimple is so hard to resist! It is recommended to pop a pimple that has a white/yellow head which will have the least probability of scarring as it is close to the skin’s surface already. Once you’ve done this, be sure to use the right product to help speed up the healing process. Look for products with ingredients like salicylic acid and glycolic acid to exfoliate your skin’s surface. It also encourages cell turnover and regeneration with retinol as mentioned by Dr. Sandra Lee.
Lastly, remember to put sunscreen on the daily to prevent the marks from darkening with sun exposure!
